Hong Kong - Shopping Mecca

What an incredible city! We've been staying at our friend Gerrick's apartment located in Central Hong Kong. The building is on a little street full of local vendors selling fresh fish, meat, flowers, lanterns and souvenirs. And the place has a great view from the 18th floor.

Yesterday, Gerrick showed us all around the city. We went to the famous Peak which overlooks the entire skyline which is quite beautiful. The IFC building is the tallest in the city and is actually where one of the scenes from Batman took place. Remember when he flies off the roof, hanging from the airplane to go back to America undetected? The building actually looks like a lion's claw. After looking at the view, we walked down the very steep hill right in the heart of the city.

We had a great Dim Sum lunch which is a traditional Chinese breakfast/lunch a la carte style. Gerrick did the ordering so we stayed away from the Shark Fin & Pigeon. So we had bbq pork, shrimp fried rice, steamed pork buns, shrimp dumpling and suckling pig (which was actually tasty).

Then we took the ferry boat to Kowloon crossing Hong Kong Harbour to visit all the shops. We went to sneaker row where they have hundreds of Nike, Converse, Van shoes. But, most importantly we went to a custom tailor where Sean picked fabrics and got fitted for a suit. They were partially made overnight so he had his actual fitting this afternoon. It will be ready by the middle of this week and it will be shipped to Don & Lonnie's house.

We took a break at the apartment and feeling adventurous we decided to go to a Vietnamese Restaurant with Gerrick. We had Beef Noodle Soup called Pho! And it was pretty good. The best part were the spring rolls, lime ice tea and pineapple slush with soda and real pineapple.

Of all the cities we've been to so far - our favorites have been Melbourne for its history and city charm, Sydney for its stunning harbor and beaches, Kyoto for its ancient temples and geisha district and Hong Kong for its fun international city vibe and incredible shopping. But, its hard to narrow down (by rank) as each place has been great in its own way.

HI Guys,
We are continuing to enjoy your wonderful blog and pictures. My favorite international cities (so far) are Sydney, Stockholm and Prague. Can't wait to read what you think of them.
Lonnie told me about your experience with the tigers....that is so coo....l and your upcoming excursion with the elephants. I am so jealous!!! Last Christmas I fostered an elephant at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya (for Ashley). It is an amazing organization.
What a wonderful experience you are having. Thanks so much for sharing. I have commented three times. It has only gone through once. Hope I can do it this time.
