Educational Trip to Dachau Concentration Camp

With the gloomy weather on the first day we didn’t want to trudge around in the rain visiting gardens and palaces so we opted for an educational excursion instead. We signed up for a tour of the former Dachau Nazi concentration camp just 20 minutes outside of the city.

It was the first concentration camp established and considered by the Nazis to be the example by which the rest were created. This particular camp was called a work camp unlike some of the other execution only camps, although starvation, disease, and executions accounted for over 30,000 deaths at this facility.

It was a sad and informative experience but we were glad we chose to do it. Our guide did a great job of describing all the sites and historical significance of each so that made it worthwhile as well. Here are just a couple pictures from the day…

it must have been pretty crazy to have stepped foot inside of the dachau facilty. i know it must've felt pretty emotional to be there.

Euwwww...gives me the shivers. It looks so eerie and dark. Makes you very thankful for the beautiful things in the world, both literal and spiritual, and how fortunate and blessed we are to live here now. Miss seeing your sweet faces and your warm hugs.
