As we found out about a week ago, Cannes is the biggest of all the film festivals but is also a private festival. We saw tons of media, critics and paparazzi with their badges on, but average Joe and Jane (us) didn’t have a prayer on seeing a film there, except for the nightly beach screening which start on Day 2. This being the case, we spent our day in Cannes wandering around exploring the city. The beaches actually have sand in Cannes, and besides going there we walked around the local cafes, the festival village, the red carpet to the big theatre, and the harbor to see all the big yachts in town. If you can believe it, from all this walking we didn’t spot one celebrity!
A fun experience was waiting at the Red Carpet for the opening night premiere of the first film, which was the new Disney/Pixar animated 3-D film “Up.” We watched all the limos pull up right in front of us and the stars get out (must have been all French film stars and Disney people). All in all, a cool experience, but even cooler I’m sure if you have tickets.
Enjoy…
