The winery sits at the southern border of the Chianti region of Tuscany, and has 3 flagship chianti wines that frequently win awards. Upon arriving at the winery, our gracious host Caterina (a member of the owning family) gave us the grand tour. She drove us around the different vineyards and showed us some of the 11 ranch homes on the property (some are up to 1,000 years old). Then she showed us the two wine cellars, one of which was REALLY old and one is brand new. We have visited several wineries before, but none of the wine cellars we’ve seen come anywhere close to these ones. You could tell they are not for public tours but to impress clients and wine distributors who come to visit.
After the tour we had a private wine tasting on the patio, and even though I’m not the biggest wine drinker I managed to hold my own (thanks to Ryan who I poured half my tasting to each time). They were so nice we were even given the rest of the bottles to take with us to dinner.
For the accommodations, both Ryan & Marie and Jillian and I were placed in rooms in the guest house for the 2 nights. They were traditional and very cute. In the mornings they even made us a home-cooked breakfast!
All in all, it was a fantastic and relaxing couple of days.
