Island Hopping in Corfu, Greece

A visit to the country of Greece wouldn’t be complete without visiting at least one Greek Island. In our case, that island was the Corfu, in Northwest Greece. Corfu is often called the “green island” of the Greek isles, because there are so many trees and the island is more lush than the others. We also learned that there are more than 4 million olive trees on the island as olive oil is the primary export.

Without a lot of architectural history on the island, we decided to make the day a fun beach day. After walking through the “old town” near the ship’s port, we caught a taxi ride to the other side of the island to one of the premier beaches. The water was clear blue and the sand felt like sand instead of rocks as you find on many Mediterranean beaches. The closest comparison, especially with the mountains as a backdrop, would be the island of Kauai.

We spent most of the afternoon swimming and relaxing, then enjoyed some Greek salad and yogurt with honey once more before heading back to the ship. The sunset tonight was beautiful as it disappeared over the horizon, a fitting end to a fun day on Corfu. Here are some photos of the day, enjoy…
